Poner las manos al fuego. En nuestro lenguaje coloquial, significa que arriesgamos nuestra integridad por alguien o algo en particular. Ponemos nuestra credibilidad en juego, con tal de que la gente comparta nuestra opinión por alguien o por algo.
En esta oportunidad, vengo a poner las manos al fuego para que ustedes no dejen de ver una película que me parece increíble de principio a fin. Que nos atrapa con una historia llena de temáticas atemporales, de esas que siempre parecen lejanas, pero que sin embargo están presentes en cada momento de nuestras vidas. Hoy, voy a tratar de hacerles entender porque no pueden dejar de ver “Gattaca”.
Gattaca es una película de 1997, protagonizada en ese momento por los jóvenes Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman y Jude Law, que nos sitúa en un futuro donde el mundo ya no es aquel donde sales a buscar tus oportunidades. Nada de eso, es un mundo donde desde el momento en que naces, este elige lo que hará contigo.
En el futuro de Gattaca, los humanos hemos logrado manipular el código genético a nuestro antojo, a partir de ahí una persona puede decidir su futuro incluso antes de nacer, aunque en estricto rigor, son los padres los que pueden decidir el mejor futuro para sus hijos, o, nuevamente en estricto rigor, eligen el mejor futuro que pueden pagar. A partir de esa premisa, conocemos a Vincent Anton Freeman (Ethan Hawke) quien, debido a la decisión de sus padres, nace a la antigua, es decir, sin manipulación genética. Lamentablemente Vincent, nace con problemas al corazón, lo que de antemano le augura un futuro lejos de lo que él más desea: Poder llegar a las estrellas.
Siguiendo la historia de vida de Vincent, comenzamos a ver cómo opera este tipo de sociedad, donde las oportunidades se te niegan sin siquiera tener la opción de intentarlo. Vemos nuevas formas de discriminación, nuevas formas de relacionarse e incluso la aparición de nuevos talentos gracias al manejo de la genética. También vamos a descubrir que es lo que pasa cuando pese a tener todo a tu favor, la vida se encarga de cerrarte la puerta en la cara.
Lo que hace imperdible la propuesta de Gattaca, es que no es una película de héroes, aquí no vamos a encontrar a alguien interesado en derrocar al sistema planificando un levantamiento. Para nada. Gattaca es una película de personas, donde lo importante es la historia personal, el sacrificio, la perseverancia. Es ganar allí donde todos te dicen que no se puede ganar.
¿Hasta dónde estás dispuesto a llegar por tus sueños? ¿Qué tan bajo estas dispuesto a caer para mantener un estilo de vida? ¿Cuánto estas dispuesto a entregar por una causa que vale la pena? ¿Cuándo estás listo para detenerte? Esas son las preguntas que nos plantea Gattaca. Y que, en mi humilde opinión, resuelve de excelente manera.
