Tengo que decir que me enfrenté a este capítulo con todo el entusiasmo, pero también con cautela. Y es que si hay algo que temo en las representaciones de época es que la atmósfera no se logre y el resultado sea un lote de actores disfrazados con lindos trajes, sin transmitir ni un poco del ambiente necesario para situarnos en el lugar que se representa. Sin embargo, todos los miedos se disiparon con la primera escena, que nos llevó a un gracioso reboot del inicio de la serie, en que Sherlock conoce a su amigo John Watson, interpretado por Martín Freeman (The Office, El Hobbit)
A contar de ese minuto, volvimos a encontrar a los personajes que nos caen tan bien, cada uno perfectamente situado, con algunos de ellos sobresalientes (muy certero el giro del personaje de Molly Hooper como médico) y sin que se sintieran falsos. Con esta experiencia, el elenco vuelve a demostrar que no tienen ningún bache en su equipo y se deja patente también el buen fiato que han ido logrando con los años.
Con todo, el capítulo no es perfecto. Una vuelta de tuerca destinada a enganchar este episodio con la cuarta temporada jugó en contra, dejando la sensación de que algunas aristas no quedaron debidamente cerradas. Sin embargo, el resultado general es de muy buena factura, con 90 minutos que nos mantienen tensos y atentos. Cumberbatch sigue interpretando a un Sherlock algo desquiciante, pero mucho más cercano al que encontramos en los libros de Conan Doyle y Martín Freeman sigue demostrando que lo suyo es el tema actoral sin estridencias: Simple y directo, pero muy efectivo.
Sherlock es una serie para ver con la misma predisposición con la que vamos al cine, tanto por su duración como por los códigos que maneja. Todos sus capítulos son autoconclusivos, pero en este caso específico, es necesario que antes haya visto las tres temporadas previas. No puedo recomendar una maratón (nadie puede sobrevivir a una maratón de serie de 14 horas), pero puede ir viéndola de a poco. Total, la cuarta temporada se empezará a rodar el próximo otoño, y es probable que esté lista para fines de este año o el próximo.
