Quiero pensar que soy el mejor sujeto de prueba para ver una película de terror. No soy consumidora habitual, por lo que mis niveles de tolerancia al miedo no son muy altas. Sin embargo, y pese a mi desconocimiento en el tema, en cuanto me contaron sobre la existencia de “La Casa del Fin de los Tiempos” me interesé de inmediato. Primero, porque es cine latinoamericano, pero fundamentalmente porque estaba catalogada como la primera película de terror venezolana y toda mi experiencia sobre productos audiovisuales de ese país tenía relación con sus teleseries, que poblaron toda mi niñez ochentera. Con eso, y la nostalgia a tope, me dispuse a verla.
En “La Casa del Fin de los Tiempos” (un poco largo el nombre, ¿no?) nos enteramos desde el principio que aquí pasa algo malo, muy malo, y la primera víctima de esa maldad es Dulce, una mujer casada y con dos hijos, quien debido a circunstancias que no puedo comentar aquí porque spoiler, es acusada de un crimen que según ella no cometió. Esto la obliga a cumplir condena en la cárcel por 30 años. Luego, por un beneficio en honor a su avanzada edad, se le permite volver a la casa donde ocurrió todo, debiendo hacer frente a sus recuerdos permanentemente. Dulce merece redención, qué duda cabe, por lo que cuenta con el apoyo de un sacerdote, quien se comienza a interesar en su caso.
La película posee todos los tics visuales que se esperan de una película de terror, con mucha oscuridad y una sensación de claustrofobia que está dada por esta casa de escaleras que cruzan todo, puertas incomprensiblemente cerradas con llave e iluminación forzada con velas. Así mismo, los personajes responden a los íconos conocidos: Un sacerdote que lucha contra el mal, una mujer enfrentada a poderes sobrenaturales, la aparición de una vidente.
Todo lo anterior, que podría ser “más de lo mismo” se sustenta y sale airoso con un guion de calidad, y una historia coherente que no cae en el lugar común (aunque a veces está a punto, pero no) y sin que presente cabos sueltos. La película va en creciente tensión, y permite al espectador ir descubriendo sus elementos en conjunto con sus personajes. Es un ejercicio entretenido ese de ir intentando descubrir las razones del porqué pasan los sucesos y sentir que le apuntamos a lo que creíamos. Algunos nos sentimos como Sherlock Holmes con esas cosas, y por lo mismo, la atención en este filme no decae ningún segundo.
La película está protagonizada por Ruddy Rodriguez (Dulce) quien entrega un personaje al que de verdad, le creemos todo, porque actúa impecablemente incluso debajo de una capa de maquillaje para envejecerla. Su actuación le imprime aún más solidez a la trama y permite que tomemos en serio lo que estamos viendo. Debe ser el punto más alto del filme.

La historia es tan entretenida que se pasan por alto los problemas de producción (probablemente por causa de un presupuesto muy acotado) y el final deja una agradable sensación de haber visto una película con buenas intenciones, que cumple con lo que promete. Con esto, me dan ganas de seguir viendo cine de este tipo, y en ese sentido, “La Casa del Fin de los Tiempos” se convierte en una gran embajadora del cine venezolano en nuestro país.
