“En el corazón del mar” nos sumerge a las profundidades del océano para hacernos vivir una historia de valentía y coraje, donde sus protagonistas son parte de una tragedia en la que se basó Herman Melville para escribir “Moby Dick”.
Esta película estadounidense dirigida por Ron Howard, llega a las salas de cine el 3 de diciembre y está dispuesta a entretener a los amantes de los relatos marinos del siglo XIX. La historia nos cuenta como un viejo marinero ermitaño y aislado rompe el silencio y decide contar la verdad sobre un gran mito que rondaba el pueblo de Nantucket, Massachusetts. Melville, El escritor, logra convencer de contar la versión de los hechos, al único sobreviviente de la tragedia que hundió el barco mercante, que tenía como objetivo cazar ballenas para luego extraer el aceite dentro de ellas, considerado el “oro” de la época.
Es así como nos introduce a la vida de Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth), un experimentado arponero que juega el rol de primer oficial, ya que el título de capitán de la embarcación se lo otorgan a un novato de buena familia (Benjamin Walker). Ambos quieren demostrar su liderazgo, uno impuesto y otro indiscutidamente natural, desde el primer momento. Por lo que las decisiones que se toman durante la travesía no son las más adecuadas ya que se ven cegadas por el poder y la soberbia.
El primer desastre que vive la tripulación es una tormenta que deja al barco con menor capacidad de subsistir en el medio del mar. Con ambos líderes empujados por el miedo a perder su reputación y prestigio, se encaminan a introducirse a un lugar recóndito del mar que promete miles de ballenas que podrían salvar su viaje comercial. Es entonces cuando aparece una ballena blanca de dimensiones inmensurables, que enfurecida quiere destruir todo lo que puede poner en peligro a los de su especie.
El film llega como una propuesta para la sala IMAX y 3D, lo que encuentro recomendable si están buscando una experiencia visual, ya que el agua y el paisaje se luce sin dudas. A nivel narrativo el film es entretenido y te mantiene alerta durante los 121 minutos que dura la cinta. De todas maneras debo admitir que por momentos si no hubiera habido tanta parafernalia extra, como cámaras debajo del agua que te hacían sentir sumergido, o explosiones y fuego en el mar, me hubiese aburrido. Por lo que tengo que reconocer que no es la mejor película de barcos y naufragios, pero si cumple con su objetivo ya que sacia el hambre de aventura que puede tener un fan de la adrenalina y ballenas gigantes asesinas.
